Ten Things to Know
 About the 9th Annual 2008 Rock to North Little Rock
St. Patrick’s Day Parade

  1. WHEN IS THE PARADE?
    The Parade is on Saturday, March 15, 2008 and begins at 1 p.m.
  2. WHAT IS THE PARADE ROUTE?
    The Parade will begin in Little Rock and end in North Little Rock. – The Parade begins from 4th and Rector, travels to 3rd Street and Sherman to President Clinton Blvd, through River Market, crosses the Main Street Bridge, travels through the Argenta Historic District, ending at Sixth & Main in North Little Rock.
  3. WHAT MUSICAL GROUPS ARE PERFORMING IN THE PARADE THIS YEAR?
    Musical bands and performers for this year’s Parade include:
    a. the Lyon College Marching Bagpipe Band from Batesville, Ar.,
    b. Shamrock Strings – a group of young student fiddle players under the direction of John Jarboe
    c. Peg Roach Loyd – a local singer/songwriter who will perform on the Shamrock Lawncare float
    d. the Arkansas Celtic Music Society session musicians playing traditional Irish tunes
    e. the McCafferty School of Irish Dance
    f. the O’Donovan School of Irish Dance
  4. WHAT OTHER THINGS WILL PEOPLE SEE IN THE PARADE?
    The parade features clowns, Irish Wolfhounds, antique cars, decorative floats and much, much more!
  5. WHO IS THE GRAND MARSHALL OF THE PARADE THIS YEAR?
    The Co-Grand Marshalls of the Parade the year are Tim and Barbara O’Brien – Barbara O’Brien is a past officer of the Irish Cultural Society of Arkansas and both Tim and Barbara are long-time supporters and volunteers for the Society and the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
  6. IS THERE ANY ENTERTAINMENT AFTER THE PARADE?
    Yes, after the Parade, the celebration continues with “Dancing at the Crossroads” – a program of Irish music and dance featuring performances by the McCafferty School of Irish Dance and the O’Donovan School of Irish Dance and music from the Lyon College Bagpipe Band, Shamrock Strings, the Arkansas Celtic Music Society session musicians, singer/songwriter Peg Roach Loyd, Kilburn Highroad (a new local Celtic band) and many other Irish musicians.
  7. WHERE WILL “DANCING AT THE CROSSROADS” TAKE PLACE?
    The location of Dancing at the Crossroads has moved! – After the Parade come to Cregeen’s Irish Pub at the corner of Main and Broadway in North Little Rock. Irish dance and music performances will occur on a stage behind the pub. The event is free! Food and beverages will be available for purchase and there will be activities for children.
  8. WHAT ORGANIZATION PRESENTS THE PARADE?
    The Parade is presented by the Irish Cultural Society of Arkansas (ICSA) as a fun, free, family-oriented community service event for residents of central Arkansas and celebrates cultural diversity in Arkansas. Founded in 1996, the Society provides programs demonstrating aspects of the culture of Ireland for the education of Arkansans, who have ancestors from one of the seven Celtic nations (Scotland, Wales, Cornwall, Isle of Man, Galicia/Spain, Brittany and Ireland). ICSA invites Arkansans of all cultures to come watch the parade and join in the fun.

  10. WHAT IS THE WEATHER FORECAST FOR PARADE DAY?
    The weather forecast for Saturday, March 15th calls for above normal temperatures with a low chance for rain. And even if it does rain, that just makes the day ALL THE MORE IRISH! It’s a GREAT DAY FOR A PARADE! Bring your families, children young and old, and come join in the fun!
